In the context of work, such expressions can relate to a range of issues, such as insufficient boundaries, poor time management, and difficulties with deadlines. If you find yourself frustrated by a recurring issue or outcome, the coaching tool “predictable pattern” can help you break the cycle.

1 - Name the recurring issue event “x.”
2 - To fill in the pattern, consider: what typically happens before event “x”? And after?
3 - Reflect on the thoughts and feelings you tend to experience at each stage in the pattern.

The pattern functions like a map, guiding you towards opportunities to intervene and interrupt the cycle. What behaviors, or "events,” can you change? Within the pattern, can you identify any assumptions or beliefs that evoke negative feelings? How can those be reframed?

Sketching and “examining” the pattern creates a moment of awareness. It empowers you to leverage greater control over whatever you’re repetitively experiencing – whether that be behaviors, outcomes, feelings, or thoughts…
